About the job

Based at the Corporate Office in Shanghai, within the Commercial function, the Director, Global Sales, China plays an important supporting role in driving sales effectiveness and enabling revenue growth across the global portfolio.

Position Objective    

The Director, Global Sales, China is responsible for managing key client relationships in the designated market for Mandarin Oriental, serving as the primary point of contact for top accounts across both Corporate and Group segments. This role involves developing and executing strategic account plans, driving revenue growth through high-rated and incubator accounts, and maximizing corporate and group business opportunities across the global hotel portfolio. T

he position also includes mentoring junior colleagues, leading client events and trade shows, and ensuring exceptional customer satisfaction while achieving targeted room-night production and revenue goals.

As Director, Global Sales, China, you will be responsible for the following duties:

  • Implement account plans to maximise revenue from prospect and target accounts, ensuring a diversified client base.
  • Achieve or exceed assigned revenue and room-night targets for all designated accounts.
  • Effectively manage a portfolio of key accounts through planned sales activity, maximising account performance in terms of rate and room-nights in line with overall sales strategies.
  • Drive the development of new accounts, with a focus on those delivering higher average rates.
  • Proactively generate group business from all assigned accounts within the territory.
  • Grow new business from underdeveloped and new accounts within a 12-month period, generating opportunities across the Group’s portfolio.
  • Identify and develop revenue opportunities in additional assigned territories as required.
  • Collaborate with hotel colleagues and third-party partners or consultants in assigned territories to maximise sales opportunities.
  • Support Global Sales events within the region, and coordinate and participate in trade shows, workshops and client events as required.
  • Conduct site inspections and host familiarisation trips as appropriate.
  • Maintain strong working relationships with relevant airlines and National Tourist Organisations (NTOs).
  • Ensure compliance with Mandarin Oriental’s standard policies and programmes.
  • Develop and maintain an accurate and up-to-date database of contacts within assigned markets.
  • Ensure SalesForce is updated daily with activities, with all follow-up actions completed in a timely manner.
  • Prepare reports relevant to assigned markets as required.
  • Attend internal meetings, including but not limited to weekly sales meetings, quarterly regional meetings and regular one-to-one discussions.
  • Gather, analyse and evaluate economic and market intelligence relevant to assigned territories.
  • Monitor competitor sales activity and report relevant insights during sales meetings.
  • Provide support to sales department operations as required.
  • Carry out any other reasonable duties as requested by the Vice President, Global Sales.


As Coordinator, Global Sales we expect from you:

  • Bachelor’s degree required preferably in Hotel Management, Business Administrations, or Marketing.
  • 5+ years’ experience working in hotels, travel trade or similar fast-paced industry.
  • 2+ years’ experience in building and leading sales teams.
  • Global/Regional sales experience is strongly preferred.
