About the job

Based at the Mandarin Oriental Jumeira, Dubai within the Sales department, the Director of Sales Builds sales annual plan and associated sales activities to execute with the Sales Team to achieve sales targets and company goals. Leads and manages all day-to-day activities related to the sales function with a focus on building long-term, value-based customer relationships that enables achievement of property sales targets. Achieves personal financial targets and monitors progress of team’s sales objectives targets through supervision and guidance to ensure team also achieves financial targets. Ensures team understand and achieves all KPIs related to the department. Attends trade shows and fairs and ensures coverage in all key feeder markets. Drives revenue with Sales Team, establishing and implementing short, mid and long-term strategies and action plans to achieve the optimal results. Stands in for Director of Commercial Strategy when absent.

As a Director of Sales, you will be responsible for the following duties:

General:

  • It is part of your role to understand and disseminate/communicate all corporate and hotel policies and standard operating procedures to the colleagues.

  • MOHG Code of Conduct requires that all business activities and business decisions comply with the general law, and with all rules, regulations and other requirements.

  • It is part of your strategy to fully understand and support in all aspects the Mandarin Oriental Jumeira, Dubai Human Resources Strategic Policy.

  • It is part of your role and your responsibility to fully support all learning and development activities.

  • On The Job trainers and trainings.

  • Group Training Technique trainers and trainings.

  • Update and maintain a complete Training Matrix for your department.

  • Update and maintain Job Description and Job Specification Matrix your department.

  • Ensure the colleagues’ career path and development needs are being prioritised and documented in accordance with the MO Profile online system.

  • Hold monthly meetings with all colleagues to assure they have a forum to voice any concerns or challenges and share departmental and hotel information.

  • You shall take all reasonable steps to safeguard stored information, and not divulge or otherwise transfer any personal data concerning the guests, customers or colleagues, or any confidential information concerning the hotel unless with the appropriate authority.

  • Use of the hotel’s network, computers or internet access which is in the hotel’s view unreasonable or inappropriate, for example gambling, chatroom, or pornographic material, is a serious breach of hotel policy and grounds for summary dismissal.

  • Support and adhere to all policies & procedures relating to Safe, Sound and Sustainable at Mandarin Oriental.

  • Ensure compliance with the MOHG Social Media Policy, i.e. to be fully responsible for the content you publish on any social media platform, including your personal site.

  • Act as a hotel ambassador at all times.

  • To carry out any additional duties requested by management, related to hotel operational activities.

  • Managerial Duties:

  • Works with team to ensure understanding of sales strategy and effective implementation of the strategy by market segment.

  • Ensures coverage of both local and international market.

  • Responsible for the account management of key and prospect accounts.

  • Analyzes team performance to ensure financial targets are met.

  • Makes recommendations for shortfalls and opportunities.

  • Assists with the development of the team through training and coaching the team.

  • Maintains accurate records of training of the team, development needs and progress.

  • Conducts one to one with team on a weekly basis.

  • Forecasts account revenue production with the team.

  • Ensures understanding of all the team’s financial targets and trains where required.

  • Attends customer events, trade shows and sales missions to maintain, build and develop key relationships.

  • Monitors market and competition and reports on threats and opportunities.

  • Cross sells brand across MOHG portfolio through Mobilise programme and ensures Sales Team cross sells at all times.

  • Maintains accurate control of expenditure

Departmental Duties:

  • Ensures the smooth running of the department.

  • Ensures coverage of department and monitors changes required to office times.

  • Ensures that all calls and sales leads are answered in a timely manner and as per company standards.

  • Promotes harmony and team work within department as well as with all other departments.

Customer Focus:

  • Supports customer loyalty and property’s brand standards by delivering service excellence.

  • Carries out site visits as per company standards.

  • Services customers in order to grow share of the account.

  • Provides excellent customer service consistently.

  • Executes exemplary customer service to drive customer satisfaction and loyalty by assisting the customer and ensuring their satisfaction before and during their stay/program/event.

  • Sets a positive example for the team.

  • Handles guest complaints and disputes.

Colleague Relations:

  • Contributes enthusiastically to the harmony of the team.

  • Has a positive relationship with all departments.

  • Works proactively with all Regional Sales Offices.

Administrative Duties:

  • Tabulates all sales related activities, leading by example.

  • Monitors team and ensures that team plans and records all sales related activities.

  • Organises Sales weekly meetings to track performance and monitor effectiveness of strategies. 

  • Keeps up to date with market trends and utilizes all Business Intelligence reports available.

  • Attends weekly Revenue Meetings with recommendations and updates.

  • Maintains up to date records of performance reviews of the team.

As a Director of Sales, we expect from you to have: 

  • Senior school qualifications

  • Degree or Higher National Diploma equivalent in Hospitality/Hotel/Business Management

  • Minimum 10 years of experience working in a 5-star hotel environment within Sales

  • A minimum 2 years of experience in a leadership role.

  • Previous experience in the GCC.

  • Experience in representing hotel at trade shows and sales missions.

  • Must be excellent in using computer and well versed in all computer applications.

  • Mature and outgoing with excellent interpersonal skills for both external and internal customers.

  • Strong business acumen with ability to analyze financial statements, revenue reports and market data.

  • Strong knowledge of Revenue Management function

  • Effectively develop, implement, monitor and control strategies and goals.

  • Analytical approach to problem solving using data to make conclusions.

  • Able to train, manage, motivate and develop all direct reports to ensure successful execution of revenue maximization efforts.

  • Able to develop and deliver training to executives and other colleagues.

  • Ability to plan and organize large projects.

  • Effective time management, communication and presentation skills.

  • Strong strategic, analytical and forecasting skills.

  • Able to solve problems.

  • Fluent in English and additional languages (Italian, for example)
