About the job

Based at the Mandarin Oriental Pudong, Shanghai within the People & Culture Department, The Director of People & Culture reports to the General Manager.

As Director of People & Culture you will be responsible for the following duties:

  • The Director of People & Culture is responsible for the overall daily P&C operation including People & Culture and Learning & Development of the Hotel.
  • Research, identify and propose appropriate Human Resources strategies to ensure the effectiveness of the Hotel.
  • Keep updated with the latest trends in the field of applied human resource activities, legal updates and world-wide HR trends. 
  • Advice and co-ordinate with management to ensure Hotel’s productivity and service standards are met in its highest level.
  • Identify and design appropriate training and development initiatives to ensure a learning culture is developed within the Hotel.
  • Ensure the compliance with all relevant hotel policies and procedures, local and government regulations pertaining to employment practices.
  • Ensure proper administration of the Performance Management System in all departments and achieve a performance driven team.
  • Define, establish and maintain proper communication channels so that an open, transparent organization can be created.
  • Maintain harmonious employee relations and an environment conductive to top performance.
  • Develop man power budget and ensure manpower is under control within the manning established.
  • Responsible for recruitment of all level of positions.
  • Recommend, propose and implement strategies to ensure retention of high performers. 
  • Provide reports on recruitment advertisements cost effectiveness.
  • Ensure all recruitment costs are within budget.
  • Select recruitment agencies / head hunters and makes recommendations to management.
  • Ensure all learning& development programs and initiatives are to maximize customer satisfaction, employee motivation and organizational profitability.
  • Conduct Performance Management system training to new executives and department heads. 
  • Ensure the selection and training of trainees is monitored and effective.
  • Ensure the career development plans and succession planning of subordinates within HR Department.
  • Personally coach executives and department heads in personnel management and training skills.
  • Oversee training conducted by Learning & Development Department and departmental trainers are effective.
  • Analyze training needs and ensure the preparation and implementation of training plans are designed to meet hotel’s needs.
  • Ensure all new colleagues are equipped with hotel and product knowledge.
  • Ensure career development policies and implements career paths for colleagues.
  • Conduct exit interviews for Department Head level. 
  • Attend to any labor  related legal cases.
  • Implement, communicate and clarify any Human Resources related policies and rules and propose modifications to remain current with needs and trends.
  • Develop and maintain hotel disciplinary system, conduct disciplinary meetings for supervisory staff and above.
  • Perform related duties and special projects as assigned by the Management. 

As Director of People & Culture, we expect from you: 

  • Bachelor and above in Hotel Management / Human Resources Management / Psychology
  • Certificate in law is desirable
  • Certified trainer in management programs
  • At least 8-10 years in Human Resources in service industry, preferably in international 5-star hotel
  • Experience in handling labor union
  • Thorough knowledge of modern Human Resources tools and techniques
  • Excellent communication
  • Ability to manage and motivate a large diverse group of colleagues
  • Ability to act as change agent, result driven
  • Strong analytical skills and negotiation skills
  • Well verse in PRC labor laws
  •  
  • Computer literate in basic MS office software
  • Fluent in English and Mandarin
