About the job

Based at the Mandarin Oriental, Boston within the Marketing department in Boston, Massachusetts, the Director of Marketing & Communication will be responsible for the development, implementation, execution and budget control of the hotel's annual marketing and communications strategy. The Director of Marketing & Communication will oversee all matters relating to the marketing and communications plan including media relations, digital marketing, consumer relationship management, social media, advertising, brand identity and collateral production for the hotel to ensure fully integrated campaigns. The Director of Marketing & Communication will oversee the Digital Marketing Coordinator.

The Director of Marketing & Communication reports to the General Manager.

As Director of Marketing & Communication, you will be responsible for the following duties:

Brand Identity

  • Ownership of hotel brand identity, including development, management, and production of brand identity materials

Advertising

  • Oversee all phases from planning to briefing and implementation of the hotel's annual advertising plan; coordinate with MOHG advertising department on all matters related to media planning
  • Plan, organise and oversee all photography and videography sessions for the hotel to ensure the right assets are in place for media, digital and collateral use

Public Relations

  • Serve as the hotel’s brand representative and spokesperson for key media and public-facing opportunities
  • Develop and execute an integrated PR strategy that strengthens the hotel’s positioning locally and internationally, ensuring alignment with MOHG corporate communications and maximizing earned media exposure across all channels
  • Ensure hotel receives regular exposure in local and international media through print, online, radio and television through proactive and reactive PR actions
  • Oversee the hotel’s Press Office, including media relationship management, press release development, hosting of media visits, crisis communications coordination, and preparation of monthly PR reports

Social Media

  • Lead the hotel’s social media strategy, ensuring brand-aligned content, governance compliance, and coordination with global teams on paid social campaigns targeting both local and global audiences

Customer Relationship Management

  • Maintain frequent contact with the hotel's guests and clients through direct marketing activities
  • Develop an overall annual direct marketing plan
  • Develop strategic brand partnerships with relevant brands in the luxury, lifestyle and arts and cultural world
  • Organise photography for VIP visits, exhibitions and social functions; oversee consumer events as required

Digital Marketing / E-Commerce

  • Maintain accurate, current, and brand-aligned website content, ensuring timely updates to imagery, video, news, and press materials
  • Ensure news related information, photography, videography and press releases are updated and featured as appropriate for all audiences
  • Analyze digital performance metrics and collaborate with global teams on PPC, meta search, and email campaigns, providing local market insights to optimize ROI
  • Provide local expertise about hotel seasonality, forthcoming events, local attractions and competitor activity in order to optimise return on paid search marketing
  • Act as the hotel’s primary liaison for new digital and e-commerce initiatives, supporting implementation and user testing for emerging website, mobile, and social capabilities

As Director of Marketing & Communication, we expect from you: 

  • Minimum of 5 years of experience in a similar senior leadership role; experience in luxury hospitality is strongly preferred
  • Strong business acumen with the ability to prepare an annual budget for marketing and communication activities
  • Strong background in brand positioning, storytelling, and developing partnerships
  • Exceptional management, leadership, organizational, and communication skills
  • Reading, writing, and oral proficiency in the English language
  • Knowledge of the local market strongly preferred

Desirable:

  • College degree in Marketing, Communications, Hospitality Management, or a similar related field.

Compensation:

The salary range for this position is $145,000-155,000 annually plus eligibility for an annual incentive bonus based on hotel financial performance.
