About the job
Based at the Mandarin Oriental Corporate Office within the Commercial Strategy Department in Hong Kong, the Commercial Analyst will play a crucial role in supporting the Vice President Commercial & Go- to – Market in administering the Sales and Marketing Budget and leading the budget process on a monthly and annual basis together with providing the Commercial team with administrative support. This role requires a good understanding and prior experience of budget management, ideally in a hotel or related industry, strong analytical skills, financial acumen, communication and collaboration and proficiency with Microsoft Office 360, particularly Excel. This position is critical to ensuring the tracking and measurement of Sales and Marketing spend within annual budget and will include assisting departmental heads and other coordinators in forecasting and tracking actuals to ensure return on investment and departmental spend within budget.
As Commercial Analyst, you will be responsible for the following duties:
Develop, maintain, and optimize Sales and Marketing Budget Process including update and accurate maintenance of existing reports with monthly actuals and updated forecasts.
Improve the current budget process including simplifying and standardizing existing tracking, build capability within other departments to maintain accurate departmental spending and forecasting.
Working together with finance function and departmental heads and coordinators to ensure the accurate tracking of actual spending, reconciliation, forecast versus aligned budget on a monthly basis to ensure no significant under or overspends.
Collaborate with cross functional departments and own monthly review process with Sales, Marketing, Customer, Digital and Revenue teams.
Analyse Sales and Marketing budget to identify under or overspends, spending efficiencies and opportunities and areas for improvement.
Own the annual budgeting process – collaborate with department heads to review past years spending, collate future departmental spending forecast from teams and share for approval to Commercial leadership (VP/ Chief Commercial Officer).
Collaboration with Corporate Finance function to input Sales and Marketing Budget into Group Forecast on a monthly, quarterly and annual basis.
Develop tools and reporting mechanisms to support business needs and enhance data-driven decision-making.
Provide recommendations to senior management based on spending analysis.
Provide training and support to colleagues on budget tracking tools as required.
Provide ad hoc administrative and analytical support to Commercial Strategy Team as required (such as expense reporting or ad hoc analysis of Revenue/ Budget).
As Commercial Analyst, we expect from you:
Knowledge of the hospitality industry or related industries preferred.
Proven experience in budget management, financial forecasting or similar in related industries.
Proficiency in Excel including Power Query and Microsoft Office 360 (Word/ PowerPoint). Power BI and other data visualization and reporting tools a plus.
Ability to work independently and collaboratively as part of a team.
Strong analytical skills with the ability to identify patterns and trends in data.
Excellent organizational and time management skills, with a proven ability to handle multiple tasks.
Strong communication skills, capable of conveying financial concepts to senior leadership and cross functional colleagues.
Exceptional attention to detail, accuracy, and strong problem-solving skills.
Ability to expand knowledge through self-paced learning and independently improve skills and knowledge.
Approaches work with a sense of urgency and purpose.
Ability to take large volumes of complex information and present it clearly, concisely, and completely to facilitate executive decision-making (e.g. in Excel/ Powerpoint).
Proficiency in English (speaking, reading, and writing) is required.
