About the job
The Chargeman is responsible for the safe operation, maintenance, and repair of the hotel's electrical systems and equipment. The role ensures compliance with Malaysian electrical regulations, supports preventive maintenance programs, minimizes equipment downtime, and maintains a safe and comfortable environment for guests and colleagues.
As Chargeman you will be responsible for the following duties:
Electrical Operations & Maintenance
- Operate, monitor, inspect, and maintain all electrical installations and distribution systems within the hotel.
- Ensure the efficient operation of high-voltage (HV) and low-voltage (LV) electrical systems.
- Conduct routine inspections of switchboards, transformers, generators, UPS systems, and electrical panels.
- Perform preventive and corrective maintenance on electrical equipment.
- Troubleshoot and rectify electrical faults promptly to minimize operational disruption.
- Respond to emergency electrical breakdowns and power failures.
Compliance & Safety
- Ensure all electrical works comply with the Electricity Supply Act, Energy Commission (Suruhanjaya Tenaga) regulations, and relevant Malaysian standards.
- Maintain a valid Chargeman Certificate issued by the Energy Commission.
- Ensure electrical logbooks, maintenance records, and statutory documentation are updated accurately.
- Conduct routine safety inspections and identify potential electrical hazards.
- Ensure compliance with hotel safety procedures and emergency response plans.
Equipment Monitoring
- Monitor the performance of electrical equipment, generators, transformers, chillers, pumps, and related systems.
- Record daily meter readings and equipment operating parameters.
- Coordinate scheduled shutdowns and maintenance activities with relevant departments.
Preventive Maintenance
- Execute preventive maintenance schedules in accordance with hotel standards.
- Recommend improvements to enhance equipment reliability and energy efficiency.
- Assist in planning replacement or upgrading of aging electrical systems.
Energy Management
- Monitor electrical consumption and identify opportunities for energy conservation.
- Support sustainability initiatives to improve energy efficiency and reduce operating costs.
Guest & Operational Support
- Respond promptly to guest and departmental maintenance requests.
- Ensure electrical issues affecting guest rooms and public areas are resolved efficiently.
- Coordinate with other Engineering team members during maintenance activities.
Contractor Management
- Supervise contractors performing electrical work on hotel premises.
- Ensure contractors comply with hotel safety standards and statutory requirements.
- Verify work quality before project completion.
Documentation & Reporting
- Maintain accurate maintenance records, work orders, inspection reports, and statutory logbooks.
- Report major equipment failures and recommend corrective actions.
- Prepare reports on maintenance activities when required.
As Chargeman, we expect from you:
Educational Background
- Certificate or Diploma in Electrical Engineering or a related field.
- Valid Chargeman Certificate (AO, A1, A4, BO, or B4) issued by the Energy Commission of Malaysia (depending on hotel requirements).
- Minimum 3–5 years of experience in electrical maintenance, preferably in a hotel, resort, commercial building, or hospitality environment.
- Good knowledge of electrical systems, generators, transformers, HVAC electrical controls, and building services.
- Familiarity with Building Management Systems (BMS) is an advantage.
