About the job
Based at the Emirates Palace Mandarin Oriental, Abu Dhabi within the Purchasing Department, the Buyer (Technical / Engineering) is responsible to procure quality electrical, mechanical, hardware materials, equipment, technical supplies, services etc. also ensuring that the property has the right product on timely manner while minimizing cost. All work to be carried out in line with the hotel policies & procedures.
As Buyer (Technical / Engineering), you will be responsible for the following duties:
- Process and expedite purchase orders utilizing the company procurement system as per the company policy and procedures.
- Obtains price quotes from vendors and compares quotes with the specifications and availability of items.
- Ensure the lowest cost consistently with required quality standards on a timely basis by procuring foods, beverages, materials, services, equipment, and supplies.
- Identify and maximize opportunities for cost and price reductions.
- Research product lines, prices, product sources and other relevant purchasing information.
- Maintain working relationships with all vendors by communicating in a professional, positive, courteous manner always.
- Monitor supplier performance against agreed measurement criteria, implementing appropriate corrective actions and advising impending business risk.
- Ensure timely deliveries at the lowest cost by handling and processing orders.
- Before making progress, the procurement process ensures requisitions are properly completed and approved as per purchasing policy.
- Maintain follow-up systems on all purchases.
- Follow corporate guidelines on purchasing from corporate suppliers.
- To handle receiving, storage, and distribution of all goods to effectively and efficiently meet hotel and corporate requirements.
- Ensure that purchased items adhere to corporate standards and if not to take corrective action as required.
- Maintain all necessary control records and reports. Also, maintain an appropriate filing system for executed and unexecuted requisitions.
- Ensure all suppliers are incompliance with company policy and procedures.
- Secure competitive bids as required and requested.
- Perform all duties and responsibilities in a timely and efficient manner in accordance with established company policies and procedures to achieve the overall objectives of this position.
- Understand and strictly adhere to the Rules & Regulations established in the Employees Handbook and the Hotel’s policy on Fire, Hygiene, Health & Safety.
- Report to duty punctually always wearing the correct uniform and name tag.
- Handle confidential matters/information with the appropriate level of sensitivity.
As Buyer (Technical / Engineering), we expect from you:
- Background in Engineering, Supply Chain Management, Procurement, or related field.
- Minimum 3–5 years of experience in technical procurement, preferably within manufacturing, construction, energy, or engineering sectors.
- Understanding of engineering drawings, technical specifications, and bill of materials (BOM).
- Familiarity with materials such as metals, valves, pumps, fasteners, instrumentation, electrical components, and mechanical systems.
- Strong vendor management and negotiation skills.
- Knowledge of import/export regulations and international sourcing is a plus.
- Excellent communication and analytical skills.
