We are looking for an Assistant Director of Finance to join our pre-opening team at Mandarin Oriental Punta Negra, Mallorca, set to open in Spring 2025.
Surrounded by natural beauty, the Mandarin Oriental Punta Negra, Mallorca spreads over 3 hectares of landscaped cliff tops and gardens cascading down to the sea, where it offers unique access to two coves surrounded by crystalline waters. The property is ideally located within Calvià, one of the most exclusive municipalities of the island, and close to key attractions such as the Portals port, the historical landmarks of the capital Palma de Mallorca, and the international airport.
Mandarin Oriental Punta Negra, Mallorca will feature 131 guestrooms, including 44 suites and nine bungalows located just a few steps from the waterfront. The spacious accommodation will provide full or partial sea views, outdoor terraces or balconies, some of which offer private panoramic plunge pools. A comprehensive Spa at Mandarin Oriental will offer the Group’s signature wellness therapies and beauty treatments, with a focus on local nature-inspired programmes. The spa includes an indoor swimming pool, while three outdoor pools are located across the resort. Guests will also have access to a wide range of water-sports as well as a comprehensive Children’s Club.
As the Assistant Director of Finance, you will be assisting the Hotel Controller & Director of Finance for the determination of optimum control objectives and for the installation and maintenance of appropriate internal control systems over income, expenditure, assets and liabilities within the hotel. In the performance of these duties, the Assistant Hotel Controller must maintain a spirit of responsiveness among all persons and functions supervised, in order to produce a positive and unified approach to the fulfillment of all responsibilities of the position.
The Assistant Director of Finance will be responsible for the following:
- To familiarize him/herself with the MOHG Finance Policy & Procedures and Internal Audit checklist and ensure that these are strictly followed by all areas of the hotel and the department
- To supervise the work, training and professional development of the employees in his or her area of responsibility, ensuring that all periodic reports are produced accurately and on time
- To ensure the Management Accounts are completed within the time laid down by Group and passed to the Hotel Controller for revision. The final draft to be produced by the end of the 2nd working day
- To complete monthly reconciliations together with the Hotel Controller by 15th each month.
- To prepare and turnover all month end report files in readiness for end of month reporting
- To deputise for the Payroll Manager in his/her absence
- To be actively involved in the search for opportunities to improve the profitability of the hotel and encourage the preparation of exception reports and analyses to help meet and measure the success of this objective
- To manage on behalf of the Director of Finance the statutory accounts requirement and the relationship with external auditors
- To manage, supervise and support all subordinate colleagues, with a view to optimizing the profitability of the hotel and improving the guest experience
- Posting of activity to the general ledger, including monthly accruals
- Research and correct discrepancies
- Work directly with Department Heads to assure accurate inventory and actively participate in the monthly inventory process and perform spot checks
- Assist in the training of new department members
- Take initiative to identify problem areas and provide suggestions for improvement
- Assist in the preparation of the monthly financial statements
- Assist in preparation and implementation on Policies and Procedures
- Confident with customers
- To carry out any other duties that may be reasonably requested by the Director of Finance
What are we looking for?
- Bachelor’s degree in accounting, Finance or Hospitality Management
- Two to five years Assistant Controller/Controller Experience in Hospitality Accounting operations
- Prolific in all Windows Based Software Application
- Strong Level of Proficiency in Excel
- Ability to assemble, analyse, understand integrated spread sheets and complex technical information
- Prioritization skills necessary to meet deadlines
- Effective management, leadership, organizational and communications skills
- Ability to work flexible schedule to include weekends and holidays
