Installs, adjusts, inspects, services and repairs a variety of mechanical equipment and mechanical parts of electrical machinery utilized in an electrical power station including vertical and horizontal hydro-electric and thermal generation equipment
Overhauls and adjusts turbines, generators, boilers, pumps, valves, pneumatic controls and auxiliary equipment
Makes repairs on high pressure vessels, such as boiler tubes, hand holes, drums, steam lines, fire boxes, nose castings and expansion joints; welds turbines, diaphragms, condensers, compressors, centrifugal pumps, pump shafts and generators; uses stainless steel, cast iron, brass, aluminum, copper and other alloys
Manufactures replacement parts and repairs and refinishes metal components using special machine shop equipment such as carbide tool grinders, hydraulic shears, hand saws, hydraulic presses, milling machines and lathes
Installs insulation, metal covering, and insulating blankets on high-pressure stem piping, low-pressure steam piping, air, and condensate, low and high-pressure water lines
Removes and reinstalls insulation when lines need maintenance
Develops, implements and maintains an effective program of equipment and outage maintenance work; performs equipment inspections to ensure that the equipment is safely maintained and operable; performs related testing and repair as needed
Installs, tests and maintains heating, ventilating and air conditioning such as compressors, condensers, pumps, control systems, fans humidifiers, chillers and heat exchangers
Installs, tests, maintain and repairs high voltage generators, motors, actuators equipment, turbine controls, station auxiliaries, lights and control measuring devices
Supervises a program of preventive maintenance of the electrical and/or mechanical equipment, structures and building of power station operation; makes regular inspections and tests of facilities to determine the overall condition of the power plant.
Performs basic routine task of the assigned craft; completes required course work as an apprentice
Provides direct oversight and on-the-job training to apprentices
Coordinates with other crafts on logistics of assigned projects
Insures availability of parts and supplies, by assessing jobs and determining parts that are needed for the job
Troubleshoot and repair voltage alternating current equipment
Obtain measurements and readings using electrical and mechanical testing instruments, including digital multi meters, meggers, amp meters, ohm meters, and phase rotation meters
Perform a variety of other maintenance tasks, such as electrical preventative maintenance, tagout/lock-out, disconnecting and removing motors, and responding to emergencies
Coordinate maintenance work with other sections, contractors, and engineers; estimate time, materials, and equipment required for repairs; examine various electrical systems and make recommendations for new equipment, repairs, and modifications
Prepare time, work, and material reports and estimate time and materials required for electrical installations and maintenance
Analyse problems and develop effective solutions
Read, utilize, comprehend and apply the local Electrical Code and other applicable procedures to electrical installations both on and offsite
Read, interpret and draw mechanical and electrical schematics
Operate a computer and related software
Maintain records of maintenance and repair work; prepare reports, documentation, and correspondence
Perform pipe bending and installation of electrical conduit, equipment, feeders, branch circuits, motors, and lighting
Draw and read electrical and mechanical schematics, blueprints, and/or diagrams
Install, maintain, test, and repair plant lighting and electrical equipment
Test and maintain electric motors, variable frequency drives, alarms, and control systems to ensure proper working condition
Inspect electrical installations to determine maintenance requirements and procedures
Assist colleagues with information regarding electrical systems within the plant and off-site locations
Participate in an electrical safety program
Perform required maintenance of motor control centres; maintain inventory of equipment and order supplies
Test and resolve equipment issues, send in equipment for repairs as needed
Order and replace the correct spares of equipment as needed
Take and adhere to all health and safety precautions
Update logbook, service request data and complete submit required reports
Take necessary corrective actions against any Guest Feedback
Report any maintenance/engineering concerns, unusual findings or safety hazards
Perform other duties that management may from time to time reasonably require
Proven experience as Electrical Plant Technician and/or years of experience as a journey-level electrician, including repair of electrical systems and equipment
Experience in electrical maintenance and repair of wastewater treatment, plant equipment or other related commercial equipment is highly desirable
High school diploma or GED and/or an associate's degree supplemented by specialized training in the electrical trades
Ability to work effectively alone and unassisted or as a member of a crew
Ability to work in wastewater treatment plant environment; with relative exposure to noise, dust, grease, smoke, fumes, gases, oils, toxic chemicals, and inclement weather conditions; work with water or in confined spaces
Ability to perform moderate to heavy lifting and carrying; reaching, kneeling, crawling, climbing; standing for prolonged periods of time
Sufficient visual acuity to read computer screens, printed documents and to operate equipment
