About the job 

Based at Mandarin Oriental The Landmark, Hong Kong within Rooms Division in Hong Kong, the House Manager is responsible for for the smooth miming and reputation of the hotel and to make decisions in the interests of the business in the absence of the General Manager Hotel Manager. The House Manager reports to the Director of Rooms / Rooms Division Manager. 

As House Manager, you will be responsible for the following duties:

  • To be based in the Main Lobby but publicly visible in the operation at all times during your shift to ensure our reputation to colleagues, guests and the general public is immaculate and if there is any concern to immediately escalate it to senior management accordingly.

  • To represent the hotel as a role model to colleagues, guests and the general public professionally at all times in a kind, caring and compassionate manner.

  • To have full and thorough knowledge of crisis management and to respond to all crisis situations efficiently. Always carrying a pager, master keys, walkie-talkie and other mobile communication units.

  • To make decisions and take appropriate action in regard to any challenges, problems, conflicts and emergencies in the hotel, escalating these as appropriate.

  • To record all happenings in the hotel in the Duty Manager's (DM) Log Book on a daily basis. Share the necessary information promptly with the management team.

  • In the absence senior dept management assumes overall responsibility for service quality, service delivery, colleague discipline, cost control, guest/colleague satisfaction, safety/ security and maintenance.

  • To liaise with department heads to resolve any cases related to guests and colleagues.

  • In the absence of department management to be present to witness any complaint or an incident; to assess, compensate if appropriate and ensure resolution.

  • To be the final check of VIP arrival rooms daily and liaise with departments as appropriate to ensure perfect VIP arrivals.

  • To monitor arrivals, departures and reservations in all departments in order to handle guest requests and resolve issues in the absence of the dept management with specific, personalized attention to our guests.

  • To welcome and greet our guests and visitors as well as bidding farewell in order to promote a climate of warmth and care

  • To encourage team members throughout the operation to collect preferences from all guests.

As House Manager, we expect from you:

  • Minimum 5 years of relevant working experience and at least 2 years in managerial level or of similar capacity in a luxury hotel and hotel group

  • Degree holder in Hospitality Management or related discipline

  • A proven record in operating high-end operations with high quality service

  • Service oriented with excellent communications and interpersonal skills

  • Well versed in MS Word, Excel, PowerPoint and Chinese Word Processing

  • Proficient in spoken English, Cantonese and Mandarin, knowledge of other language is an advantage.
