About the job

Based at the San Clemente Palace within the Sales & Marketing Department in Venice, The Director of Marketing & Communications is responsible for leading the hotel's strategic marketing and communication efforts, ensuring the consistent positioning of the brand across all channels in line with Mandarin Oriental standards. This role focuses on enhancing brand visibility, supporting revenue-generating initiatives, and building strong relationships with media, partners, and the local community. The Director works in close collaboration with the Sales, Revenue, Food & Beverage, Spa, and Operational departments to develop and implement fully integrated campaigns that drive awareness, engagement, and conversion. This position reports directly to the Director of Commercial Strategy.

As Sales Manager, you will responsible for the following duties:

  • Develop and execute the hotel’s annual marketing and communications plan, aligned with commercial and brand objectives.
  • Lead all public relations, media relations, and influencer engagement efforts to maximise positive exposure for the property.
  • Oversee the creation and implementation of digital and print advertising, including seasonal campaigns, brand activations, and local promotions.
  • Manage the hotel’s social media strategy and content calendar, ensuring tone, visuals, and messaging reflect brand values.
  • Collaborate with Sales and Revenue teams to create compelling promotional offers and marketing collateral for key segments (Leisure, MICE, F&B, Spa).
  • Ensure all communications (internal and external) are aligned with Mandarin Oriental’s global brand guidelines and tone of voice.
  • Lead the development and production of all creative assets, including photography, video, and storytelling content.
  • Build strong relationships with local and international media, securing regular press coverage and editorial features.
  • Coordinate the organisation of media events, press trips, influencer stays, and on-property activations.
  • Manage marketing budget, tracking ROI and ensuring efficient allocation of resources.
  • Monitor competitor activity, market trends, and customer insights to adapt marketing strategies accordingly.
  • Act as the hotel’s brand ambassador in the local community, building partnerships and supporting CSR initiatives.
  • Collaborate with Mandarin Oriental Corporate Office and other properties on group-wide campaigns and initiatives.
  • Lead and mentor the Marketing & Communications team, fostering creativity, consistency, and excellence.
  • Perform any other reasonable duties as assigned by the Director of Commercial Strategy.

As Director of Marketing & Communications we expect from you: 

  • Minimum 5 years of experience in marketing and communications roles within the luxury hospitality or premium lifestyle sector.
  • Proven expertise in strategic brand management, digital marketing, public relations, and content creation.
  • Strong leadership and project management skills, with experience managing cross-functional teams and external agencies.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills in English and Italian (required); additional languages are a plus.
  • Deep understanding of luxury consumer behaviour, hospitality trends, and market positioning.
  • Experience working with tools such as CMS platforms, Adobe Creative Suite, social media management tools, and marketing analytics dashboards.
  • Ability to balance strategic vision with hands-on execution in a fast-paced environment.
  • Strong media network and press contacts, particularly in travel, lifestyle, and luxury sectors, are highly valued.
  • Degree in Marketing, Communications, Public Relations, or a related field required; postgraduate studies a plus.
