About the job
Based at the Mandarin Oriental, Hong Kong within Catering Sales Department in Hong Kong, the Director of Event Management is responsible for the strategic planning, execution, and oversight of all events, ensuring exceptional guest experiences and seamless operations, while upholding the brand's luxury standards. The Director of Event Management reports directly to the Director of Commercial Strategy.
As Director of Event Management, you will be responsible for the following duties:
Develop and implement strategic event plans, budgets, and sales targets for all meeting and event spaces, including banqueting, conferences, and special occasions
Lead and motivate a high-performing team of event managers and coordinators, fostering a culture of excellence and continuous improvement
Oversee the entire event lifecycle from inquiry to post-event follow-up, ensuring meticulous attention to detail in planning, execution and billing
Collaborate closely with hotel departments particularly culinary, operations, sales & marketing to ensure seamless coordination and delivery of services
Maintain strong client relationships, acting as the primary point of contact for key accounts and resolving any issues or concerns promptly and professionally
Monitor market trends, competitor activities, and guest feedback to identify opportunities for innovation and improvement in event offerings.
Ensure all events adhere to health, safety, and hygiene standards, as well as company policies and local regulations
Manage vendor relationships and negotiate contracts to ensure high-quality service delivery from external partners
Prepare and analyze financial reports, forecasting event revenues and expenses to maximize profitability
As Director of Event Management, we expect from you:
Degree holder in Hospitality Management, Event Management or relevant discipline
Minimum of 8-10 years relevant working experience and at least 3 years in managerial level or of similar capacity, preferably in luxury hotel
Excellent written and spoken English, Cantonese and Putonghua
Proven track record of successfully planning and executing a wide range of events, from intimate gatherings to large-scale conferences, banquets and outside catering
Strong financial acumen with experience in budget management, forecasting, and revenue optimization.
Strong communications and problem-solving skills with the ability to engage effectively at all levels of colleagues and guests
Aggressive, confidence, self-motivate, positive thinking and able to work under pressure
