Based at the Mandarin Oriental Corporate Office in Hong Kong, within the Technical Services division, the Director, Architecture & Design plays a critical strategic role in shaping the brand’s future growth.

This position ensures that new opportunities and new‑build properties authentically capture the Mandarin Oriental brand DNA, express the essence of each destination, and integrate elegant design, luxury craftsmanship, and technology that elevates the guest experience.

The role reports to the Group Director, Architecture & Design.

As Director, Architecture & Design, you will be responsible for:

ACCELERATE – Development Team Support

• Supporting Development and Regional Technical Services teams with planning and design evaluations of new development projects (pre‑HMA).

• Recommending improvements to meet Mandarin Oriental’s design ambition.

• Contributing to Vision & Positioning (PULSE) with market‑specific insight.

• Delivering the Design Brief aligned to each project’s Vision.

• Leading the selection of architects and interior designers capable of delivering world‑class Mandarin Oriental design.

• Influencing and inspiring owners to uphold the Vision and recommendations.

• Driving design innovation and sourcing world‑leading designers.

ELEVATE – Projects Support

• Partnering with Project Leaders to engage, inspire, and guide project design teams.

• Reviewing Mock‑Up Room (MUR) designs, documentation, and space planning.

• Conducting public area and guestroom layout reviews: R&B, Spa, M&E, and Specialty Suites.

• Supporting Regional Technical Services with major CAPEX and asset enhancement initiatives.

• Tracking and reporting progress to keep senior leadership informed.

ELEVATE – Brand Innovation

• Demonstrating design leadership and contributing to Mandarin Oriental’s design evolution.

• Conducting consumer‑insight‑driven research to inform innovation.

• Leading the creation of Processes, Tools, Product Standards & Guidelines (PS&G).

• Proposing, trialing, and implementing design innovation and sustainability initiatives.

• Supporting global Technical Services initiatives led by the Group Director of Architecture & Design or Chief Technical Services Officer.

As Director, Architecture & Design, we expect from you:

• University degree in Architecture and/or Interior Design.

• 15+ years’ senior leadership experience in luxury hotel development, architecture, or interior design (urban + resort).

• Expertise in luxury hotel & residences design, spatial planning, sketching, and industry design standards (e.g., LEED).

• Strong capabilities in design and construction management, project oversight, and managing multiple complex projects simultaneously.

• Strategic thinker with strong analytical and problem‑solving skills, attention to detail, and ability to balance creativity with operational functionality.

• Proficiency in MS Office, Bluebeam Revu, AutoCAD.

• Outstanding communication skills; a culturally sensitive team player with strong influencing skills.

• English fluency required; Mandarin a strong plus for regional responsibilities.

• Ability and willingness to travel regionally when required.
