Scope of Position

Sets the hotel’s strategic commercial direction by balancing financial objectives, managing sales segments, and guiding the overall commercial strategy of the hotel. Works closely with the General Manager, and supervises the Manager of Marketing Communications, and Director of Revenue to develop and implement a robust commercial strategy that maximizes hotel revenues, market share, and profitability. Responsible for optimizing revenue and profit across rooms, function space, and total hotel operations. Accountable for all transient, group, and catering segments, including deployment, pricing, channel distribution, and positioning. Identifies future revenue opportunities and communicates strategic initiatives to the sales, marketing, and revenue teams. Oversees the Revenue, Sales, and Catering departments, providing strategic guidance, commercial leadership, and development to ensure high-performing teams.

Responsibilities

General:

  • Communicate and enforce all corporate and hotel policies, procedures, and standard operating practices to colleagues.
  • Ensure all business activities comply with MOHG Code of Conduct, laws, and regulations.
  • Fully support the Mandarin Oriental, Muscat People & Culture Strategic Policy and all learning and development initiatives.
  • Maintain a complete Training Matrix and Job Description/Specification Matrix for your division.
  • Prioritize colleague career path development and document in the MO Profile online system.
  • Hold monthly meetings with teams to address concerns and share departmental and hotel information.
  • Safeguard confidential guest, customer, and colleague information.
  • Adhere to Safe, Sound, and Sustainable policies and MOHG Social Media Policy.
  • Promote a zero-tolerance environment for harassment or discrimination.
  • Act as a hotel ambassador and perform additional duties as required.

Budget:

  • Supervises the Marketing Communications and Revenue Director to prepare the annual budget and implement the Annual Marketing Plan.
  • Monitor and control all sales-related expenditure against budget forecasts.

Overall Strategy & Commercial Leadership:

  • Develops and drives the hotel’s commercial strategy to ensure alignment with MOHG brand philosophies and objectives.
  • Provides strategic guidance on pricing, inventory management, channel distribution, and market positioning.
  • Coordinates sales strategies across Regional Sales Offices, Corporate Revenue Management, Marketing & Communications, and on-property leadership.
  • Ensures commercial strategies are effectively communicated and adapted to changing market conditions.
  • Supervises the Marketing & Communications Manager to develop strategic marketing propositions, including online, offline, and market/country-specific campaigns.
  • Maintains awareness of competitors, market trends, and future business opportunities.
  • Strong commercial acumen, analytical skills, and strategic thinking are essential to optimize revenue and market positioning.

Analysis:

  • Analyze market trends, booking pace, and competitive performance to inform commercial strategy.
  • Provide insights on pricing, seasonality, mix, and displacement to optimize revenue opportunities.
  • Devise and implement event-specific strategies to capture incremental revenue.
  • Communicate results, challenges, and opportunities to key stakeholders in a timely manner.

Revenue & Distribution:

  • Establish and maintain effective pricing strategies for all inventories and market segments.
  • Oversee Revenue Director’s implementation of sales strategies, inventory adjustments, and rate loadings.
  • Ensure timely and accurate forecasting, reporting, and analysis of revenue performance.
  • Lead Revenue Meetings, long-range planning, and strategic discussions to drive profitability.
  • Maintain accurate positioning and information in all distribution channels and monitor competitor activity.

Sales Leadership:

  • Guide Director of Sales to strategically deploy the Sales Team and achieve revenue targets.
  • Establish priorities, goals, and accountability measures for the Sales Team.
  • Ensure accounts are properly targeted, covered, and contracts comply with MOHG standards.
  • Conduct monthly account reviews, weekly sales meetings, and oversee group leads, pricing, and space strategy.
  • Lead trade shows, sales missions, and cross-selling initiatives to enhance brand presence.
  • Maintain control of incentive schemes, rewards, and performance appraisals.

Catering Leadership:

  • Guide Director of Conference and Events to strategically target accounts and achieve revenue goals.
  • Review weekly forecasts to ensure revenue targets are met and exceeded.
  • Monitor team performance, enforce accountability, and ensure all KPIs are achieved.
  • Implement strategies for free sale calendar and other revenue-maximizing opportunities.
