About the job

Based at Mandarin Oriental, Doha within the Commercial Strategy Department in Doha, the Director of Commercial Strategy is responsible for setting the hotel’s strategic business direction by balancing financial objectives, managing sales segments and guiding the commercial strategies of the hotel. Works with General Manager, Director of Marketing Communications and Director of Revenue to develop and implement the hotels commercial strategy to maximize hotel revenues, market share performance and profits. Director of Marketing and Director of Revenue will report directly to the Director of Commercial Strategy. Responsible for maximizing revenue and profit associated with rooms, function space and total revenue as required. Position is accountable for all transient, group and catering segments and deployment, pricing, channel distribution and positioning. Identifies future revenue opportunities and effectively communicates strategies to the sales and marketing colleagues. Oversees the Revenue department and all the processes associated with them such as demand, revenue, forecasting, inventory management, channel management and proactive opportunity analysis. Oversees both the Revenue Department and the Marketing Department, including all processes associated with demand, revenue, forecasting, inventory management, channel management, proactive opportunity analysis, and marketing communications. The Director of Commercial Strategy reports to the General Manager.

As Director of Commercial Strategy, you will be responsible for the following duties:

  • Together with Director of Marketing Communications and Director of Revenue Management, prepares the hotel’s annual budget and develops, implements and adapts the Annual Marketing Plan as market conditions fluctuate.

  • Responsible for annual expenditure for all sales activities and control of the budgeted expenditure by a monthly forecast.

  • Develops the business outlook and commercial strategy for the hotel and ensures the strategies conform to MOHG’s brand philosophies, guidelines and initiatives at all times.

  • Provides strategic direction as it related to pricing, inventory, channel management and distribution of all market segments in accordance to MOHG’s brand guidelines.

  • Proactively analyzes and communicates business trends and booking pace in comparison to the market, last year, forecast and budget.

  • Analyzes competitive sets, price positioning, seasonality, mix and displacement on a weekly basis.

  • Establishes and maintains effective and rational pricing strategies for all inventories and market segments.

  • Oversees the annual pricing process for transient, group and catering rooms, function spaces and other areas as required.

As Director of Commercial Strategy, we expect from you:

  • Senior School qualifications and Degree or Higher National Diploma equivalent in Hospitality Management.
  • Minimum 10-year experience in Revenue Management
  • Must have minimum 10-year experience in Sales with MOHG or another similar hotel company
  • Leadership experience minimum of 10 years with experience in handling all sales segments
  • Experience of minimum 5 years of managing large teams.
  • Preferable to experience in the GCC.
