About the job

We are looking for a forward-thinking Cluster Director of Engineering to support the development, pre-opening, and ongoing operational engineering leadership of both Mandarin Oriental, Luxor and Mandarin Oriental, Aswan. This role will play a critical part in ensuring all engineering, maintenance, safety, sustainability, and technical infrastructure standards are delivered in line with Mandarin Oriental Hotel Group expectations and luxury hospitality operating requirements across both properties.

The Cluster Director of Engineering will oversee all engineering operations, maintenance strategies, technical services, energy management, and capital planning across the two resorts, ensuring the safe, efficient, and compliant operation of all hotel facilities and systems while delivering an exceptional guest and colleague experience.

As Cluster Director of Engineering, you will be responsible for the following duties:

During the development and pre-opening phase:

  • Assist in reviewing MEP, Fire Life Safety, and Security systems to ensure alignment with MOHG Product Standards & Guidelines.
  • Collaborate with owners, consultants, contractors, and internal stakeholders to deliver efficient, maintainable, and locally appropriate engineering installations across both properties.
  • Lead site reviews to assess construction quality, technical compliance, and maintainability of all engineering systems and installations.
  • Monitor project progress and escalate unresolved or non-compliance conditions to MOHG Technical Services.
  • Support testing and commissioning activities to ensure all systems are fully operational prior to opening.
  • Assist in developing engineering operating procedures, asset registers, preventive maintenance programmes, and technical standards for both resorts.
  • Participate in recruitment, onboarding, and development of the engineering teams during the pre-opening phase.

During operations:

  • Lead and manage the Engineering teams across both properties, ensuring effective scheduling, training, development, and performance management.
  • Develop and implement preventive and corrective maintenance plans for all mechanical, electrical, HVAC, plumbing, kitchen, laundry, pool, water treatment, and building systems.
  • Ensure compliance with all health, safety, environmental, fire life safety, and building regulations through regular inspections, audits, and risk assessments.
  • Coordinate with contractors and suppliers for outsourced maintenance, repairs, technical upgrades, and renovation projects.
  • Monitor utilities and energy consumption and support sustainability and energy optimisation initiatives in line with MOHG ESG objectives.
  • Manage engineering budgets, including CAPEX and OPEX planning, cost control, procurement oversight, and lifecycle planning of critical assets across the cluster.
  • Respond promptly to engineering emergencies and operational incidents, minimising downtime and guest impact.
  • Maintain accurate records of maintenance activities, equipment logs, certifications, and compliance documentation.
  • Collaborate closely with Rooms, F&B, Spa, Security, Residences, and other operational departments to support seamless resort operations.
  • Ensure all technical systems and guest facilities remain fully functional, safe, and aligned with luxury hospitality standards.
  • Support long-term asset enhancement planning and continuous improvement initiatives across both properties.

As Cluster Director of Engineering, we expect from you:

  • Preferably an Egyptian national with prior experience working with an international luxury hotel operator.
  • Previous Middle East or GCC experience is highly advantageous.
  • Minimum 10 years of experience in senior engineering leadership roles within luxury hotels or resorts, including pre-opening experience.
  • Previous cluster or multi-property engineering leadership experience is preferred.
  • Strong technical knowledge of HVAC, electrical, plumbing, BMS, water treatment, power generation, and building maintenance systems.
  • Experience managing engineering operations within large-scale luxury resorts or complex hospitality environments.
  • Strong understanding of Fire Life Safety systems, health and safety regulations, and sustainability practices.
  • Proven leadership and team management capabilities with the ability to develop high-performing engineering teams.
  • Excellent organisational, project management, and problem-solving abilities.
  • Experience managing engineering budgets, CAPEX projects, procurement, and supplier relationships.
  • Strong communication and stakeholder management skills with the ability to work cross-functionally across operations and development teams.
  • Ability to work effectively within a fast-paced pre-opening and operational environment.
  • Fluency in English and Arabic is preferred; additional languages are advantageous.
  • Degree or technical certification in Engineering, Facilities Management, or a related discipline.
