Bar/Beverage Manager

Mandarin Oriental New York is looking for a Bar/Beverage Manager to join our Food and Beverage team.

About the job

Based at the Mandarin Oriental New York within the Food and Beverage Department in New York The Bar/Beverage Manager maintain the overall day to day operation and long-term outlook of the Bar, while creating a pleasant dining environment and experience.

As Bar/Beverage Manager, you will responsible for the following duties:

·       Support company's philosophy and company culture through the use of Pillars of Legendary Quality Experiences on a daily basis to ensure Guest Satisfaction and the achievement of our Mission Statement

·       Support company's philosophy and company culture through the use of Departmental Legendary Quality Experiences on a daily basis to ensure Guest Satisfaction and the achievement of our Mission Statement

·       Support company's philosophy and company culture through the use of Guiding Principles and D.E.L.I.G.H.T as part of ensuring Guest Satisfaction and the achievement of our Mission Statement.

·       Maintain and update as necessary the beverage offerings at the Bar and the Lounge

  • Provide leadership and support for Bartenders and Servers

·       Trains, evaluates and schedules Bartenders and Servers

  • Performs administrative duties such as, but not limited to, scheduling, payroll and inventory, and ordering.

·       Supervise the maintenance and cleanliness of the Bar

·       Manage proper staffing level.

·       Manage proper supplies level.

·       Constant training and development of colleagues.

·       Chair monthly departmental meeting.

·       Conduct daily pre-shift communications with colleagues.

·       Ensure Bar service standards.

·       To visit all of our guest tables during or after their visit, to ensure satisfaction.

·       To manage, coach, and counsel colleagues, including disciplinary procedures.

·       Liaise with guest relations and front office teams to communicate all group information/changes to existing information to appropriate hotel colleagues in an accurate and timely manner

·       Coordinate all aspects of service to include but not limited to:

o   Food and beverage requirements

o   Timing of events

o   Special attention guests

o   Table setup

o   Special requests

o   Billing instructions

o   Authorized signatures

o   Décor (to include floral) requirements

Additional Duties and Responsibilities

o   Report all suspicious persons or activities and hazardous or unsafe conditions to the management

o   Understands and follow the laws and guidelines for beverage service

o   Provides instruction and/or guidance for guest and employee safety in fire or other emergency situations

o   Highly knowledgeable about the Reservation System and InfoGenesis POS system.

o   Ensures accuracy of all menus: current, correct, spelled correctly, clean and presentable.

o   Ensures menu descriptions are up to date and distributed appropriately.

o   Assists with check reconciliation with regards to voids, promos and discounted items. Assures that checks are settled in an honest and accurate way.

o   Develops yearly budget

o   Develop semi-monthly pace report

o   Develop monthly forecast

o   Monitor payroll of department

o   Review and approve departmental PAFs

o   Attend scheduled food and beverage meetings

o   Develop and update menus, as appropriate

o   Revise standard and procedures for department, as necessary

As Bar/Beverage Manager, we expect from you: 

·        Have a minimum of 3 years’ experience in similar position, preferably in luxury environment

  • Reading, writing and oral proficiency in the English language.

  • Willing to work a flexible schedule and holidays.

  • Ability to be flexible with job demands and open-minded when being asked to complete tasks.

  • Ability to operate and use all equipment necessary to run the Bar.

  • Ability to operate with grace under pressure.

  • Ability to move or handle equipment throughout the restaurant generally weighing up to 50 pounds.

  • Ability to work varied hours/days as business dictates.

  • Ability to stand for up to 8-10 hours a day

  • Must have in-depth knowledge of wine and beverages

  • Be able to relate to all levels of guests and management.

  • Have a minimum of 3 years experience in similar position, preferably in luxury environment

  • Have the ability to handle multiple tasks at one time.

  • Have excellent communication and organization skills

  • Be able to consistently delight and satisfy our guest

  • Have the ability to handle guest requests in a detailed manner

  • Must have excellent attention to details, and extensive service knowledge

Salary and Benefits:

  •  Salary $80,000 to $100,000 yearly

  • A competitive benefits package, including health, dental and vision, 401(K), etc
