Mandarin Oriental Hotel Group is looking for a Director of Global Communications to lead the company’s corporate communications efforts. This individual will develop a global communications strategy that informs our media relations, executive and brand communications, and play a critical role in crafting a compelling, differentiated, clear, and concise communications approach for Mandarin Oriental at scale.

Reporting to the Vice President Brand, this role will be responsible for crafting and leading the external communications strategy, focusing on earned public relations, social media, sustainability, events and crisis communications. We’re growing quickly and need an experienced leader to scale this function. This role can be based in Hong Kong, Singapore or London.

In This Role, You Will Be Responsible For

Developing a communications strategy that aligns with Mandarin Oriental’s brand positioning. The role holder will be accountable for the development and deployment of brand communications & key messaging strategy across owned and earned channels both strategically and tactically.

  • Partnering with our management teams on property on key product & new hotel launches and announcements, crafting a compelling corporate narrative to help people understand and connect to Mandarin Oriental’s mission and vision by generating an internal and external communications approach that feels authentic, aligned, and customer-centric for MOHG
  • Leading crisis communications as needed, both the approach and response.
  •  Lead all corporate communications & be key point of contact for corporate office media interviews including supervision of party lines and acting as Group spokesperson to ensure high level brand reputation management.
  • Serving as a subject matter expert and communications thought partner to our executive leadership team.
  •  Management of communication of Groups key strategic initiatives – Sustainability, Wellness, F&B, MO portfolio. Regularly collaborate across teams to ensure consistency and co-ordination of all communication activities
  • Oversee the CSR communications strategy and execution and collaborate with peers to assist them in planning and communicating their localized initiatives.
  • Partnering with external agencies to execute on our communications & content strategy to craft distinct themes/stories that appeal to multiple audiences across a diverse set of channels
  • Cultivate, deepen and maintain relevant global media relationships to supplement the regional work being done by peers and external agencies.
  • Oversee the measurement and effectiveness of earned and owned media efforts & orchestrate internal and external parties to deliver to goals and pivot when data dictates.
  • Evaluate and develop a high performing team of communications professionals who oversee communications and content development, media relations, corporate and sustainability communications. Collaborate heavily with regional PR and brand teams & their external partners.

What are we looking for?

  • Have developed and executed a global communication strategy previously in a corporate environment preferably but not limited within luxury or hotels either from a client or agency side.
  • Are strong communicators in their own right-they have developed a strategy, but are also a strong content creator, editorial guide, and curator of great messaging and alignment.
  • Provide strong, thoughtful, and clear leadership and able to work independently and at pace.
  • Can clearly articulate how global media is changing and how a modern communications strategy might adapt to reflect those changes.
  • Have helped brands and companies tell their story in a compelling and human way at scale.
  • Are able to work efficiently and effectively in a fast-paced and transparent environment working under demanding timelines with a keen eye for detail.
  • Are passionate about the Mandarin Oriental brand and its potential.
  •  A strong collaborator, comfortable working in close partnership and connecting with regional communication and marketing colleagues
  • Successful in managing executive expectations, building relationships & being a trusted leader on issues relating to communications and reputation
  •  A good people leader, with the ability to inspire and drive the direct reports (currently 2) in disparate locations.
  • Strong multi-tasker with the ability to tackle the timely and the strategic simultaneously.
  • Approach all initiatives with an international mindset.
  • Excellent writing and editing skills with a commitment to the highest quality standards.

This role can be based in London, Singapore or Hong Kong.
