This position is located at Mandarin Oriental Boston. Holding both the AAA Five Diamond and the Forbes Five-Star awards, Mandarin Oriental, Boston enjoys a coveted location in beautiful Back Bay. With a sophisticated yet relaxed atmosphere, the hotel offers the perfect blend of luxury and style.

Overview of Position

The Sales Manager is expected to manage and prospect for Middle Eastern & African group business in order to meet and exceed annual and monthly budgeted room nights, room revenue and banquets revenue assigned to this market segment.

The Sales Manager will prospect for and manage group business from the Middle Eastern & African market. The Sales Manager requires travel to destinations outside of Boston and the United States of America according to budgeted annual sales initiatives. The Sales Manager reports directly to the Director of Group Sales.

Essential functions

• Manage all accounts, group from Middle Eastern & African markets.
• Secure new high-end net worth group accounts
• Weekly hotel sites presenting property
• Organize sales calls in said territories
• Maintain the Delphi database with up to date information
• Liaise with Regional Sales Offices worldwide
• Supervise Sales Coordinator
• Plan monthly site inspections and client trips and ongoing sales trips, as required
• Create and implement strategic prospecting plan and sales action plan for review
• Actively initiate, orchestrate, and participate in projects and meetings as required to achieve sales goals.
• Meet and exceed quarterly and annual sales goals
• Establish and maintain visibility of Mandarin Oriental, Boston within the MICE industry locally and outside of Boston.
• Methodically solicit potential clients for future business on an on-going basis
• Conduct outside sales calls and highly polished presentations to current and prospect clients
• Attend hotel and industry related functions and tradeshows
• Represent and cross-sell Mandarin Oriental Hotel Group properties
• Support MOHG regional sales office and maintain the relationship with them
• Entertain potential and existing clientele to develop and maintain relationships
• Plan and operate hotel “FAMiliarization visits” for selected third-party meeting planner and end-user group clients
• Participation in yearly budget and marketing plan

Requirements

  • Experience in direct sales or account management required
  • Candidates must have a track record of success; ideally 3 years of meeting/exceeding sales goals
  • Current Middle Eastern & African market experience
  • Previous experience managing and/or coordinating the group sales process preferably for a luxury property
  • Previous luxury hotel or travel agency experience
  • Extremely strong written, interpersonal and presentation skills
  • Strong computer knowledge, with fluency and/or aptitude, to fully use Delphi and Opera property management systems
  • Capability to use Excel to generate and interpret data reports on business volume from sales territory and individual sales progress reports
